About

A custom dictionary of Middle Cornish written in the Standard Written Form.

Cornish is a language spoken historically in Cornwall, a nation to the south-west of England. It had become moribund by the late 18th century and a revitalisation began in the 19th century. Today, thousands of people speak Cornish at various levels, and the language is being introduced to young students at the primary school level.

Middle Cornish is a revival of the language as it was attested in largely poetic sources in the 14th-early 15th centuries. The Standard Written Form is a compromise orthography which is capable of representing Middle Cornish and some varieties of later Cornish.

Although there is no standard variety of Cornish, Middle Cornish has become the de facto standard. The modern Cornish language overall is marked by its richness and variety, and all the words contained within this dictionary can be used in other varieties and can be changed to suit them.
