Upper Mongolian is descended from the Khoshuud and Torghud dialects of Oirat. The Oirats migrated into Qinghai under the leadership of the Khoshuud Khan Güshi. The Khoshuud played an influential role in Tibetan politics and religious affairs until the Qing conquest.
